Electronics for senior high school teachers at Ada IoP Centre 20th - 22nd July 2015

Thank you to all of the teachers who attended the course at the Ada IoP Centre from 20th July 2015 to 22nd July 2015.

The course was run to improve the electronics practical skills of the teachers attending and introduce some new techniques and modern devices.

We used some documents on the course:

• A course booklet which covered much of what we did
• The worksheets for the logic gate exercises
• The diagram of a torch we built on the second day
• A table of symbols for use in circuit diagrams
• A guide to using the 555 timer
• Pinouts of logic gates so that we could build logic circuits on breadboards
• Pinouts from datasheets on the 4026 counter to 7-segment display chip and the 7-segment display so that we could build a counting circuit
• We used an LM393 as a comparator to compare two voltages
• We used a power MOSFET VNP7N04 to switch a motor on, we could use this for switching any high current deevice

The course provided hands-on practical activities related to some of the electronics elements in the SHS physics elective syllabus as well as the use of the MOSFET as a switching device and an introduction to microcontrollers using the PICAXE.
